An ideal introduction for a first-time visit to Egypt, this tour is a taster of its antiquities, taking you by air and river cruiser to visit the major sites of the cities and the Nile. With a hotel stay in Cairo and a four-night cruise from Aswan to Luxor, packed into just eight nights away, with a one-off departure on ‘the most luxurious steamship on the Nile’, the SS Misr, the former floating palace of King Farouk. Accompanied by an Egyptologist and local guides, the journey is bookended by Cairo, where discovery begins at the Pyramids of Giza and the epic, enigmatic Sphinx, rising from the desert sands; continues to ancient Memphis and Saqqara; and returns to the city to visit the ‘Citadel of Saladin’, esteemed Egyptian Museum (or the new Grand Egyptian Museum, subject to opening date), and buzzing Khan el-Khalili bazaar.
Two days of exploration in Aswan with a glimpse of the river island, Nubian culture and visit to the High Dam, which created Lake Nasser. Discover Kom Ombo’s twin temples and Edfu Temple and continue to cruise downstream to Luxor, revealing its vast and splendid temples and the Valley of the Kings, with Tutankhamun’s tomb among generations of former and following pharaohs.
Whilst the vessel carries more, sightseeing will be limited to 25 guests.
Temple, tomb and pyramid visits are on foot with steps and uneven surfaces.
Mooring may be alongside other vessels with views obstructed and access to your own boat through other vessels' lobbies and across gangplanks.
In Luxor the local authorities are introducing regulations to move boats' moorings away from the town centre and your vessel will normally be berthed outside the town.
Early morning starts are often made to excursions thereby avoiding the main crowds at the sites and the intensity of the midday sun.
The programme may be altered due to navigational factors with locks, water levels or congestion at certain sites.
Air travel and taxes, transfers, 4 nights’ hotel accommodation, 4 night-cruise, breakfast daily, 2 lunches in Cairo, full board on cruise, itinerary as described, services of guides and local representatives. If our specially negotiated airfares are unavailable at the time of booking, a supplement may apply.
Travel insurance, visa procurement, optional excursions, tipping, any government taxes or compulsory charges introduced after publication.
